With brown's stack on the six point and broken 8 point it seems clear to split 24/21 with the 3 before brown improves his forward position.

I agree. I think that splitting with the 2 is even better (see my analysis in the other post) except for the fact that a 2 elsewhere is a lot better than a 3 elsewhere. That is, 24/22 13/11 (illegal) would be slightly better than 24/21 13/11.
Would be closer but still probably right to split with the 3 if we moved one checker on the 6 point to the 5, 8 or 9 point.
Did you really mean "9 point"? It looks to me that 24/22 9/6 would be clear then.
I'm not sure it would be closer, but I agree that the 3-split would still be best if you move one 6pt spare to the 5pt or 8pt.
And if 2 were moved splitting would probably be wrong.
You mean both 6pt spares? It seems to me that some split (to the 21pt or 22pt) would be right if the 6pt spares were moved to any of 9pt/9pt, 9pt/8pt, 9pt/5pt, 8pt/8pt, 8pt/5pt or 5pt/5pt. Perhaps I misunderstood.
