After seeing a lot of early game rollouts, I began to make the 5pt more often. Some examples of people typically not making the 5pt when they should appear in the Backgammon Openings book. Here is another example:
It feels like Blue should unstack, either with A (Attack, 8/4(2) 6/2(2)) or O (Outer, 13/9(2) 6/4(2)), doesn't it? But no, actually, it's better to make the 5pt with P (Point, 13/5(2)); not by much, but I think many experts would judge the 5pt wrong by .050 or so. FWIW, Snowie trunc is [P N15 A18].

The position posed by Tad (copied below) has a lot of differences, but a similar paradigm exists: It just looks like a more efficient use of resources to make two inside points. Nevertheless, based on what I've seen, I'm going with the 5pt.
The fact that Blue has already cubed at the score -7-3 gives me pause (in exchange for fewer wins, 4pt + 2pt will win more gammons), but I still lean towards the 5pt. [If it turns out to be a small loser in the rollout then the 5pt might be best anyway, because bots play blitzes better than positional games.]
