I've never been to Europe. I have been told that so many people know English, that an English speaking visitor doesn't need to learn the local language in order to travel there. That's certainly an advantage for US & UK citizens who didn't major in French in college. I would enjoy that advantage as much as anyone should I make the trip some day. However, in the event that I was in someone else's country and I encountered a local who wanted to use his or her own language, I wouldn't tell them that it would be more efficient if they would use mine.
