The race is getting close to even now, so we shouldn't be so eager to hang back on the 23-point. Since we can't cover, I'll slot our bar and step up with the back guy. The checker on the seven point serves two purposes: builder for the three (if not hit), and starts a point we'd like to have (if 3-blot is hit).
