My first thought had been that 52S 63X at least follows the standard strategy of splitting + protecting the split with a tempo hit, while in the case of 52S 64H, there are no obvious tempo hit indicators, and it's hard to see any other strategical upside of it.
I have learned now that I need to appreciate the tactical aspects of a position (bad sixes) more, and that "split to 18 + tempo hit" is not an important concept here. I can see that it is generally less convincing than "split to 20/21 + tempo hit", because the opponent does not mind hitting loose on the bar point as much as hitting loose in his homeboard.
