What factors favour the reverse split compared to the normal split? It seems to me that:
32Z duplicates men two-apart on the offensive side, meaning that there will be fewer point-making rolls. The 22-point anchor is not as good as the 21 point. Playing 13/10 instead of 13/11 at least doubles the opponent's rolls that run and hit (63 54 33? vs. 64) The immediate danger of being blitzed with 55. Both splits remain almost equal, so probably of more significance is that bringing two down with 13/10 13/11 fares worse. I surmise that the reasons for its demise include:
The opponent already has the beginnings of a prime, but is currently short of builders to extend it. Therefore it becomes more important to split, bidding to make an advanced anchor and to threaten the outfield. Hits on the oufield blots now hurt more because White's blocking structure is better than at the opening. Bringing two down steers toward a priming game, where you are already behind.
