Riviera Cup/Cannes Cancelled

The situation is unfortunate and I agree that there is a big presseure on TDs when it comes to hotels, venues, guarantees, room nights, rates and all the rest. I also agree that we need more discipline from players (generally speaking and there are exceptions as always) to pre-register, to cooperate when it comes to booking at the tournament hotel, and to make their reservations in time. Rooms are limited on one hand, and TDs are forced to guarantee for a certain amount of room nights. Last minute travellers are really a pain for a TD. Especially those who show up 2 days prior to the event and still expect to get the tournament rates and conditions. I strongly recommend that players apply a change of behaviour regarding this point in order to have more tournaments and TDs willing to keep up the hard work of putting up events... Itīs about time to wake up and smell the coffee... Some discipline is overdue!
That said, bad economy, poker and other reasons might affect the game in general and a tournament and it would maybe have been wise in this specific case to choose another format, less costly, as much as I like to see new ideas and new formats...
The Nations Cup was a great and unique event and itīs sad to see it die and vanish. Maybe it would have been good to keep it up as such and skip the "poker format" instead. Because last minute cancellation of a tournament are a nightmare for participants, even though I understand and respect the decision when it comes to the financial risk taken for a tournament.
Regardless of my personal and professional feelings for Eric Guedj, any successful and glitzy event disappearing and coming to an end is bad for the game and a loss for the community.
Itīs sad. Very sad.
