Hi,
i think the 20% or any late registration fees misses absolutely the real Problem of Backgammon. First of all we have a big Downtrend in Backgammon in live events and in online Backgammon. If you look around the Internet at the major Online Backgammon Sides (real Money) you will see that all of them have lost around 30% - 50% of Players/Action, even the biggest one Play65/Ge.. has lost a lot of customers. If they wouldnt have their Israeli Players and the big rush of new Turkish Players, it would be almost no action there. In live tournament we have the same, most tourneys have less Players. First of all we have economic bad times and a lot of player just dont take part, cause they are not willing to spent a lot of Money and most of the time a lot of extra expenses like travel, Hotel, food and so on. Most of the "Big" Backgammon Tourney are runnung at very expensive places (south france ...). If you charge now an extra fees for late registration you make the tourneys more expensive for a lot of people, cause many just cannot plan 30 days ahead, hence less players will attend the Tourneys. For myself i just cant plan 30 days ahead, if i have luck i maybe know it 1 week before, if i can visit a tourney, and i wouldnt pay the extra late fees.
Because of the overall bad situation Backgammon cannot afford to make Tourneys more expensive, instead we should make it more cheaper for Players to come to Tourney by maybe changing the Places where the Tourneys are run. I think the extra late registration fees is contra productive and will reduce the amount of Players.
