Generally I'd try to keep my board closed against a single checker, but here you would need to play 6/1 4/1 to achieve that, which would leave a bad distribution. Another way of looking at it is that you'd like to maximize the number of checkers off for the number of points opened, and like to do that for the upcoming rolls as well. 6/1 4/1 is bad in that regard, because you lack flexibility; the next few rolls, you'd going to open up a point for each checker taken off.
I'd play 5/off 6/3. Then you'd have a better chance that your next rolls will take checkers off without needing to open up home-board points. Likely a very close decision.
