Thanks for the RO, Neil.
64S-31
Here is data for 64S-31:
Money
Snowie .. [P X2 H52] 25k 5kH
GnuBG .. [X P5 H31] 46k 5kH
XG 3-ply [P=X] 15k
XG 4-ply [X P4] 46kOther Scores (GnuBG)
d[X P12] 7k
g[X H14 P16] 5k
s[P is clear]Key: P = Point (8/5 6/5), X = hit-and-split (24/21 8/7*), H = Hit-and-down (13/10 8/7*). Error sizes are in thousandths.
Before the brackets, d = dmp, g = (gammon) go, s = (gammon) save; else assume money. After the brackets, the number of trials (k) is in thousands, rounded down. For example, "g[X H14 P16] 5k" means that at (gammon) go, X is best, H is -.014 and P is -.016 after 5000+ trials.
Why is X so fine a play (tied) when White's builder is on the 9pt (64S-31), yet so misguided a play when White's builder is on the 10pt (63S-31)? For a detailed explanation, see Backgammon Openings, pp. 12-13. Neil's review also discusses the position pair.
64S-31 [X P2]
63S-31 [P X41]
