Take a look at the actual equity of the position for playing on. Both 3 and 4 ply underestimate it, however, 4 ply is closer to reality than 3 ply. Therefore, I suspect that 4 ply will do a more accurate job with future cube decisions as to whether to cash or not.

Of course, as we've seen from the Depreli study, 4 ply cube is really strong in general anyhow.
