similar results here with OpenCL. If it would be a matrix*matrix multiplication it will probably work, but with matrix*vector you have to have huge vectors to get a speedup. And if you want to have more than just the multiplication in the GPU it get's *very* tricky if not impossible to keep the GPU busy.

Additionally Cuda is Nvidia only, OpenCL will not work on some AMD mobile GPU, will the driver act stable? What about other OS?

In a controlled environment and e.g. a competition a GPU based engine might be doable, but distributed in the wild will IMHO be a support nightmare.

SSE is much easier to use (nevertheless led to some additional grey hair), and easier to supported cross platform.
