I guess the play that most of us would have made is 10/5. It places a spare on the 5pt and keeps the 8pt. However, it makes your 64 next roll a shot number. This play has an additional disadvantage: If you later reach a position where you are stripped on the 5pt, 6pt, 8pt and 10pt, your 64 will leave a double shot.
Consider 8/6 8/5. After clearing the 8pt, you have no shot numbers next roll. Although you now have a large gap, you have only one outfield point to clear. When you get down to only two checkers on the 10pt, you will need to know whether you should volunteer with 43 53 42 52.
