That's an interesting philosophical question. My advice is premised upon knowing that the opponent thinks he is playing to the wrong match score, such as by seeing that he has the wrong number written down on his scoresheet. I don't believe anyone should be expected to engage in inductive reasoning of the type "this is a really bad cube at the score, therefore my opponent is probably confused about the match length, therefore I should correct him."
