i first joined gammonsite when it was gamesite2000 and recently joined again. what ive noticed in the 10 yrs from then and now is that it really hasnt grown. i dont think gammonsite has issues getting people to try it, but it does seem to have problems retaining folks (especially top level players) why this is the case, i really dont know, but i will give you a list of my likes and dislikes.
likes:
cost: especially compared to gridgammon the $40/yr is a bargain.
the look: the graphics and different themes you can use make it hands down the nicest looking site around.
leagues and tourneys: plenty of tourneys going on during the day and the reward of free extra time if you win is nice also.
dislikes:
rating system: i wish everyone started at 1500 and used the same formula as fibs and gridgammon instead of starting at 1600. even though it probably evens out in the long run, i still feel my rating is a bit inflated.
leagues and tourneys: even though there are plenty of tourneys going on during the day, i would prefer to see less longammon and other backgammon variant tourneys and more straight backgammon tourneys. also i would like to see more tourneys of 5/7 or 7/9 than the "standard" 3/5.
i would also like to see some changes made to the leagues. while its nice to have choices, i would like to see at least one league similar to the fibs league where you have you dont have to sign up every month and there are different divisions within the league. the top 2 or 3 from each division move up to the next highest one, the bottom 2 or 3 get regulated down and perhaps a playoff between the top players in the main division for the league crown.
i cant tell you how many times ive logged on only to find the bots outnumbering humans by a wide majority then switching over to fibs and have 5 invites within the first minute of showing up. i like gamesite and wish you luck in bringing its numbers up.
