Round-robins are defective. Only something like Novice events where the point is to play matches regardless of the results can be successful with round-robin formats.
Single-elimination is fine. 64 pro tennis plays (128 counting the women) show up at a Major, play one match and go home.
But 2 out of 3 matches (11-points) would be the best, IMO. That's why I thought the World Cup in Texas was a bigger accomplishment that winning Monte Carlo. And the list of winners at the World Cup included far fewer 'mid-level' players, that we often see win in MC.
