"World Championship" -- Demographics (partial) and Ideas

I have read this thread with great interest, and a lot of great ideas have been brought up.
I attended WC once in 2003, and I think the numbers were 280/120/60 back then.
My biggest worry is the fact, that a great deal of the tournament circuit do absolutely nothing to attract beginners and intermediate players. This years beginner=next years championship player. How come Nordic Open can attract 130 championship players AND 300 more in advanced/beginner/novice? And many other tournaments canīt? The beginners flight is actually the most important flight, they are the future "customers", and should be threated like that. Instead of thinking this year and maybe the next, we have to be more long-term minded.
Another thought:
From my point of view, the community has changed in recent years.
10-15 years ago, it was money, prizes, single knock-out tournaments and things like that, which attracted the players. It was more or less a "gambler environment".
Today we have a different community. A large part of the players wants the titles, the experiences, the possibillity of sightseeing at the local venue. More like a "sport environment".
I think we have been moving away from poker, and are getting closer to chess, sort of speak, if you take an overall look of the community. This said, we still have all kinds of players, and shall of course create space for them all.
I think the future will demand lower entries, interesting venues, and a guarantee for competent tournament directors.
From my point of view, WC have to be changed, simply because the community have changed. Maybe not that radical the next couple of years, but some adjustments has to be done.
The biggest question is: WHO will do it? It allways comes down to that question, because it is a job which demands hundreds of hours, and there is no guarantee for succes. I think that a cooperation between USBGF, DBgF, JBL and other organisations, are the only realistic way to make it happen.
