...The size of victory could also be taken into account. ...
This would either be bad or be meaningless, and either way should not be part of the measure of good match play. I know someone who has for years proposed margin of victory should be given consideration in scoring backgammon tournaments, but fortunately this idea has never grown itself any legs. It could be bad if the way it was handled led to a bias in favor of playing pattycake with the cube when behind instead of trying aggressively to catch up and win in the limited game-time remaining. If instead the way it was handled was thought out well enough to make the equity gain from the wins you get with correct cube handling cancel with the much greater size of the loss when the aggressive (and correct) approach fails, it becomes meaningless.
To answer the earlier posts yes I realize what I said in my first post applied more to error rate than variance reduction, but I still don't trust the comp to get it right on the luck factors due to misunderstandings of at least some of the positions. I already said this bias could favor either player, but why introduce another source of noise? Much as I hate losing a match at DMP, I'd hate even more winning the match at DMP, only to be informed I was being sent to the conso because my luck factor, as measured by some bot, was +.xx and that was sufficient to cancel my win.
