You know, like that Carrot Top guy...
Granted, at the moment the 10 point appears to be of limited use: (1) it can be a landing pad for checkers coming around; (2) it can be a launching pad for pounding Villain's attempts to make a more advanced anchor; and (3) it can be used to make the nine, bar, or five points. But this remains a positional game, not a back game, and in a positional game, assets are everything. I don't know how the game is going to develop, and experience tells me that the 10 point is a nice point to have when things have not yet shaken out.
But back at you: how really useful is it to have 3 blots instead of none? By my count, 26 numbers hit at least one checker. 20 numbers hit your blot on the 5 point, giving Villain a huge leg up in his attempts to secure a more advanced anchor. And 10 numbers let him send 2 checkers back. Yes, it is nice when he doesn't hit, but you are far from gin even after making the 5 point.
You are ahead in the race with fewer checkers back. Those factors argue for a safe play. Yes, you have a two point board to Villain's one point board plus a blot. Is that by itself enough to go blot crazy in an immediate attempt to make your 5 point? Maybe, but over the board this is one of those plays where I would make the 10 point figuring that my play can't be too far wrong while playing 13/11, 6/5 could be a significant screw-up.
