"I hope I can buy you in the Calcutta in Wisconsin."
Thanks for the sentiment.
I love the tournament in Wisconsin. I have participated three of the last four years in Madison. What do I love about the tournament in Madison?
(1) Great people in the Midwest.
(2) Competent and low-key tournament staff.
(3) Nice venue.
(4) Madison is one of the most beautiful and charming towns in the country. Situated between two lakes, Madison has some great hiking trails by the lakes.
(5) I love the Asian restaurants within walking distance: Thai, Indian, Vietnamnese and Chinese. Many other non-Asian places as well. My fave is the Indian lunch buffet, less than a five-minute walk from the hotel. Best Indian food this side of Kolcutta.
(6) Last but not least, (I almost forgot to mention) Madison has my favorite tournament format, the Indianapolis Swiss format. Everyone is guaranteed four matches. They are played on a schedule, I believe 120 or 135 minutes apart.
If you have never been to Madison, try it. I promise you will have a great time. If flights to Madison are too expensive, maybe fly into O'Hare and take the bus or rent or share a car to Madison.
I wish I could attend Madison this year, but unfortunantly, I will be out of the country.
Hope you and everyone else have a great time in Madison!
