I recall a player who used to be at the World Championships at Monaco, and if memory serves, won ones. His ritual involved: picking up dice, putting then in his cup, wipe his hands (handkerchief spread out on his legs for this purpose), thorough shaking 20+ times (to be increased at crucial moments), wipe his hands some more, more thorough shaking 20+ times, roll dice, wipe hands (probably, not sure about that) ponder, try plays, ponder some more, make play. Matches could easily take over 6 hours.
This was pre-clock, and actually inspired quite some betting by kibitzers on the number of shakes before rolling, especially at crucial stages of the game.
