If by "getting it right" you mean making the play that the bot considers right then surely many players would get it right. It's a plausible play and just by random chance some players will play it.

Many of the opponent's rolls that include a 3 are fairly good anyway, and it's clear that hanging back gains on some rolls. In addition to the rolls I listed before, rolls where the opponent is forced to leave a blot on the 18 point now leave a triple shot. So it's largely a judgment call whether the amount that you gain on those rolls outweighs the amount that you lose on 3's.
