I should point out that my son's apprenticeship began some time back. He was actually with me on the 14 hour drive to Pittsburgh that involved a blown head gasket, tow truck, rental car, closed interstates due to snowstorm, and the need to efficiently navigate unknown roads off the map using the rapidly setting sun.

He just got his learner's permit in order to ready him for disaster trips of his own.
