I think we could all stipulate, without even looking at rollouts, that there are plenty of boring midpoint vs. anchor games that are proper D/T even at these scores. In these positions, of course, there are very few gammons for either side.
What I conclude, as a general rule of thumb, is that the trailer's gammon chances matter a lot more than the leader's. If there's a reasonable chance you might face a gammonish recube, you want to stay far away from an initial cube at these scores. But if your opponent almost never wins a gammon, it may very well be correct to double - even if you have some gammon chances yourself that will be partially killed by cubing.
