some thoughts about the 32 down response

I didn't do the rollout. But, I think my estimate of .02 was probably reasonably accurate.
Here are some thoughts on this position and move choice. There is a Chess author that I like a lot named Jeremy Silman (IM). He stresses the need to play the type of game which emphasizes your advantages and minimizes your disadvantages. If you have a knight to your opponent's bishop, you would like to steer the game to positions that favor knights; for example closed pawn structures. So you have a tendancy to avoid pawn exchanges that would open the position for your opponent's bishop.
Look at this position in that light. Your opponent has a big advantage in a prime versus prime game since he has made the five point and you have failed to make a point. When you play two down (13-11, 13-10), you are trying to build a prime. You are playing into your opponent's strength. When you split, you are trying to make an advanced anchor or possibly even race. If you acheive either of these plans, you will have steered the game away from your opponent's greatest strength - priming. This is what you want. Always try to fight on your own turf.
