The cube works well in many games. MY brother is an excellent golfer and often uses the cube in his high-stakes golf games. The rules are the same as backgammon, you can only cube when it is your turn and you have access to the cube.

I would think it would work well where games often get lopsided, like backgammon, and it would be more fun to start a new game/bet than continue the current one.
