I pay later despite the opponent owning the cube.

It is often correct to pay later and hope to roll a clearing number. The worst that can happen is that you leave the same blot though maybe the opponent will have improved his board by then. That risk is not enough to make me pay now.

This is a play that I would not spend much time on OtB.
