Steve: "I still think chess is a game of pure skill ...."

I dont agree. Here is an example from my own experience: I was playing a tourney, the night before i was going through some books and looked at an very little known line on the Ruy Lopez, the Jaenish Gambit (1. e4 e5 2. Cf3 Cc6 3. Bf5 f5). I found a game with a variation showing a trap.

Lo and behold, the next day my opponent did play that rare opening, followed more a less the same line than the game I had seen and felt in the trap. I won in 15 moves with probably less than 15 minutes used on the clock!

There are no doubt in my mind that I was lucky!
