The shooter who was 50 for 50 (on that particular day) is inconsistent. (Perhaps it's nerves, perhaps it's substance abuse, perhaps he has an unhappy marriage.) Sometimes he is 40/50, sometimes 45/50, sometimes, but rarely, 50/50. In this competition he was "lucky" enough to have one of his best days. The more skillful shooter, who is always 49/50 or 50/50, was "unlucky" in that (a) one of his bullets had a minor defect which caused it to go slightly off-target, and (b) in this particular competition his opponent happened to have one of his infrequent good days.
