You need to specify contest length to make your point without equivocation. If you play the awful bg player a match of 50 points your odds of winning might very well be the same as the golf analogy you gave.

The reason your point is valid, is that typically one might compare a round of golf, 18 holes, to a 15 point match but you indeed need many more points to become a lock.
