Do you care about the Last Chance?

Personally, my interest in an event is proportional to the amount of play I foresee being able to get in the event, and the degree to which a single bad result will end my weekend. I go to a tournament because I want to do well in the main event, not because I might be able to win some 8 player jackpot. Sure, side events are great for passing the time and keeping you entertained when you're eliminated, but they're the popcorn; I'm going because I want to see the movie.

An event like the Madison Swiss shows that you can have lots of play while having just a single "main" tournament flight. Vegas events offer very long matches (15 points in the main) with a buy-back and then 3 losses before elimination (including last chance). Meanwhile, I was not entirely thrilled with the Pittsburgh format which was Swiss (which I like), but you were completely knocked out of the main event after losing two 9-point matches.

I go to tournaments because I love the game and I love the competition. So I want the most play and the most chance to succeed. I am not an equity chaser looking for a either a huge payout, or a quick death so I can go looking for fish to play on the side.
