In Response To: Insightful comment about luck versus skill (Perry Gartner)

In any competition, in the long-run the better/more skillful player will eventually outshine a less skilled player as long as there is a significant difference in their abilities, skill is a meaningful factor in the competition, and the competition is conducted fairly. The more luck there is in the competition the more time/contests the long-run may require.

If the average open backgammon player were to race Usain Blot in the hundred meter dash, the long-run might be a few seconds. If he were to play Stick Rice a series of three seven point-matches a day, the long-run might be weeks.
