I'd play with one blot. That will win less gammons but more games. I think the adverse swing when a 2nd checker is picked up is too large. I recognize that 17/12 gets hit more often on the next roll, but that is partly mitigated by the roll after (assuming you do not get hit immediately). Hitting may be correct at -4 -2 having cubed, but I would not play it here.
