Gammons are worth a bit less than 1/2 here and I don't think hittings gets enough of them to compensate for the extra losses. With two checkers hit, White is just about dead but with one hit he can often hop away aided by Black's open 5 pt. Black's two semi-dead checkers mean that it may be non-trivial to close his 5 pt and contain a single checker.

I don't hit.
