It's thematic to play 24/21 when ahead in the race, but here White has three checkers back and outboards us. So White is more willing to attack us by hitting loose and is not so well positioned to extend the prime. That is an argument against 24/21.

Making the 3 point strengthens our board which should make White less willing to attack us. Putting those checkers behind White's anchor is somewhat anti-positional, but White is not likely to want to run off the anchor soon anyway so we don't need to keep them there for the sake of pressuring White to hold the anchor. However, 6/3 5/3 does use up our spares that we might want to use to hit loose on the ace point at an awkward moment.

Speaking of that, is the current moment awkward enough that we should play 6/1*? I don't think so. 24/21 13/11 looks stronger than 6/1*. Similarly 11/6 and 13/8 don't look any better than 24/21 13/11.

I'm not sure between 24/21 13/11 and 6/3 5/3 but I will opt for the former because it directly addresses the needs of the position. If we bide our time with 6/3 5/3 then we might roll something awkward next time that forces us forwards too quickly, leaving our rear checker in the lurch.

24/21 13/11
