Looks like I'm going to be outvoted, but I double despite the score because we're not likely to be gammoned and because the opponent's board has started to crunch and is not unlikely to deteriorate further (e.g., we hit and the opponent doesn't roll a 5 or a 6). It's true that a bigger race lead would make the double more comfortable but especially against a stronger opponent, I don't see why we need to wait.
