In Response To: Very Good Reason To Refuse Having Your Matches Recorded (Paul Weaver)

In a very humorous way, Paul points out one of the major reason I would like to see as many matches as possible recorded....that's about the only way we know how good someone is. Yes, an argument can be made that their w/l results tell us, but how do you compare someone who plays in many tournaments against someone who plays in half as many? And how do you account for the luck of the draw?

I play as many of my live matches on extremegammon as opposed to a board as the tournament director and my opponents will allow because:

1. I love to be able to study my errors later and see how I played; 2. I love to see what my opponent's errors are and how he/she played, and the ones who agree to play me on the computer feel the same way.

There are all kinds of arguments against playing on the computer vs. playing over the board, and I it really all boils down to what you prefer. No one can prove to me that it is easier or less stressful to play on the computer because you don't have to worry about illegal moves. No one can prove to me that it is easier to cheat with a computer because you could somehow fix the dice or have alerts that your opponent can't see (maybe these things are possible, but there are as many or more ways to cheat over the board). If nothing else, I like the computer because it eliminates cocked dice. (Let me hear someone argue about that one!--I am sure someone will come up with something.)
