One of my very favorite backgammon articles is Tom Keith's "Cube Handling in Noncontact Positions" http://www.bkgm.com/articles/CubeHandlingInRaces/. Based on Tom's detailed study, I use the 8, 9, 12 Pip Count method with races over 90 pips. I use the Ward method for shorter races. As far as the extra White cross over, Chuck Bower taught me his modification to the Ward method. Chuck suggested that 2 pips be added for every cross over.
Using Bower's modification of the Ward count, red's pip count is 71 and white's pip count is 76. D/T. Of course, race strategies are not always right. But 8-9-12 over 90 pips and Bower's modification of Ward are quite reliable.
