While it may be right to make the wimpy play, 14*/23 is much more flexible. It loses when white rolls one oh his seven hitting 2's and often when white's roll is followed by Blue's 6-2, 5-3, or 6-3, but it feels better for the other variations as it challenges white anytime he is not able to play both numbers with his checker on the bar and even when he can on numbers like 6-5 and 6-3.
