Novices are called AMATEURS on most of my tournaments.

As Amateurs, they play for no money, but they win trophies. On top, I offer them a format which gives them many matches to play and to practice.

However, they use the same boards and are taken care by the same staff, the enjoy the same cocktail (if any) and the same gala dinner (if any) than the upper divisions. Thatīs why there is a registration fee / rake that is charged.

In Florida, we had more than 10 Novices who played 7 point matches in a Round-Robin format in 2 groups with a big final for 1st and 2nd and small final for 3rd and 4th place. Thatīs a lot of play for $60 including rake.

25% that is the charge as rake in the USA is not like Amateurs or Novices will lose on equity. Itīs simply ridiculous.
