i realize that pip counting is an integral part of the game and the ability to do it quickly (especially in timed matches) and accurately could make the difference between winning and losing, but i feel like i'm missing something.
To get the pip count of the 5 checkers on the 7pt, (6 + 1) (6 – 1) = (6 x 6) – (1 x 1) =36 -1 = 35.
this is a shortcut?! what happened to just 7 x 5 = 35
To get the pip count of the 4 checkers on the 6pt, (5 + 1) (5 – 1) = (5 x 5) – (1 x 1) =25 -1 = 24.
6 x 4 = 24 + 35 = 59 and so forth?
im all for learning something to make pip counting easier but it seems to me sometimes these formulas are more complicated than they need to be. often the simplest solution is the best.
