Containment play #1

You need to respect White's board, so best to have a play that is not too blotty and shotty while retaining outfield control. OTB I would likely miss the play that I now believe is best; I would be looking at making the 9 and finding a blot and shot minimizer, but anything leaves a lot of shots and blots; then I would look at 9/4*, and settle on 13/4* as the most conservative hit (which also leaves a direct cover). But I believe the right play is 17/12 9/5, which only leaves few shots and excellent outfield control. Next turn, we may hit loose under better circumstances (less blots), or make a useful outfield point, or hit white in the outfield after a partial escape (most likely scenario). And that would be a good variation for us.
Cube ownership also argues for this play - we like to make slow but steady progress.
