XG Settings

For rollouts I create a custom setting using 1296 and 3 ply for checker play and 4 ply for cube, a min of 324 and stop when 99.5 chance to be best and .05 to be best. When playing against the computer I play against the third level down, "extremegammon" as the other two are unnecessarily good and take too long. For highest speed turn off animations. Turn off outplays. Right click on the checker play analysis and and change "display winning % as" to "values" instead of graphics bar.
You might also make these adjustments:
When you play a match, hit the F2 button, or default to Free Mode, as you can immediately see by the color of the move log if you have made a mistake.
In the options menu, click on "no 6-2 from the bar" to eliminate that irritating aspect of the game.
If you want to keep some of the animations on (such as the rolling arm) but don't want the game to play too slowly, in the "board configuration" section you can lower the speed numbers to make the game play faster.
If you have a fast computer and you are a very high level player, do your analysis at World Class (it's 3 ply but applies xgr+ whenever your play differs from 3 ply). For most players, using "thorough" is more than adequate, and you can go to xgr+ or do a rollout on just those plays you are most interested in.
Turn on the "computer whining" option so that the computer complains whenever it gets a bad roll as this will better prepare you for live backgammon.
Be sure to save every game to your player profile, as that, over time, can provide you with valuable insights into your cube and checker plays and indicate where you need more study.
Do not use a green background on your board, as Neil and others really don't like that.
