Please confirm US Open dates

It is a little easier to recover from an early loss though since not as many rounds are needed to qualify. It depends on the numbers but there may be three undefeated players and the one loss bracket winner qualifying for final the final four player playoffs. At that point they all start out as equals.

I think it is a good format.
