Eliminate entry fees to promote backgammon?

I just emailed the director of the Dayton club, who holds low fee and no fee tournaments once a month each, and asked him which gets the larger attendance. I will post here when/if I hear back from him about this.

Re: national rankings based on local results. There will be numerous discrete regional pools of players with significant differences in average playing strength participating in such a system, if it gets off the ground. What means is planned to make the national rankings meaningful?
