Clocks and Penalties and Pip Counting

First, there’s no doubt I could and should speed up my pip-counting. And second, I don’t want to go back to the days of NO penalty for slow play. There will always be some players who think they can take as much time as they want if there’s nothing that says they can’t. But I think most players play at a reasonable pace even if there are no penalties. And I don’t object to clocks per se to keep track of the time used. I’d like to see some sort of graduated penalties ranging from warning to points to forfeit. I seem to be a minority of one in this forum. Many say they’ll never play without a clock again. And others, not on this forum for the most part, say they’ll never again play in a tournament with clocks. I’m hoping maybe there’s a middle ground.
