I actually never played BG with a clock. Before playing any important tournament with a clock, I would want some practice sessions to become familiar with the mechanical aspects. I don't expect to run into trouble with the clock - when I started to play backgammon I was slow, but then I sped up a lot - but would want to get a feel for the required pace and would want to make sure that the novelty of playing BG with a clock would not be distracting. Have a few practice sessions will be a good idea I am sure.
