Blinding signups?

In Response To: Blinding signups? (Chuck Bower)

This needs to be a new thread, since it's not really analogous to the side pools situation. There, the drawsheet is unaffected by a dozen sharks diving into the side pool because there's one fish in it. The fish already knew the sharks were in the room, and also knows he'll have to get by some of them to win the tournament and with it, the side pool.

But the point you have brought up is a good one because it could happen again in other Masters events. I think not telling the late-entering person who just wandered in from the Chinese buffet down the street who the opponent is that is waiting for them, would not be particularly good form. Observent people in the room already know, and have warned their friends, so the person who does pony up a large Masters entry fee only to find he has to play MCG, and then recognize that he was one of only a few not "in the know", is likely to think he got a raw deal. (This would be especially true if he had intended to play the late start, but arrived in time for the early start and was talked into switching!) Of course, he could have ended up playing MCG anyway in a random draw with all the names in the hat to start, but in that case he wouldn't feel anything unfair had been done--he would say he just got unlucky.

Solution? I'd like to see the draw close for each section of the Masters when its play starts, same as for the Open or any other big-ticket events.
