I haven't had time yet to read Mochy's article and don't remember Kit's original but coincidentally I worked through some double jeopardy situations earlier this week. One thing of note was as you and Mochy mentioned, if you can win a gammon and it's useful that argues for not worrying about it. However, this doesn't hold on all configurations, for example:
