In Response To: Answering Chiva's Questions (Paul Weaver)

Paul says "I contrast Bill's attitude and response to the attitude and response of those who organized, ran and directed the tournament in Sante Fe in January, 2010.

This year in Sante Fe, a first round match between Ed and Larry took three hours to complete, delaying the tournament's schedule. Neil Kazaross and I finished our quarterfinal match at 12:45 AM. This was unacceptable to Neil and me.

After the Santa Fe staff realized the severe consequences, they apologized and promised that clocks would be mandatory next year. They sent out a questionaire to all participants, requesting feedback so they could do a better job next year."

Neil replies .. please allow me to add a bit of info here AFIRC. Another one of Larry's matches was also delayed and that contributed to the fact that we had to play late since I had to play him after he won. This time Larry's match was clocked (can't recall if initially or during a slow match) but after they took a break of a few minutes he and his opp forgot to restart the clock when they returned which added more delay since I didn't notice the clock wasn't running (was kibbing several matches).

My issue was not with having to play late, but entirely with having the winner(I think was winner) originally rescheduled to play at 9 AM (OMG!!!) rather than the previously scheduled 10:30 AM Sunday. This was because the loser of that 9am match would be fed into the last chance. However, MFIC Gibson is always one to listen calmly to reason when it is presented to him calmly and I went over the bracket with him and pointed out that the morning's match could be clocked no matter who won between I and Paul, and that there was a bye in the LC for the loser of that. As a result, the morning start time was moved to a more reasonable 10am. Note also the Paul and I played with a clock and the match while reasonably long was over in clearly less than 2 hours and could've gone to 1 or even 1:15am.

I greatly look forward to playing in Santa Fe again and this time clock mandatory in Champ level events and with a progressive LC. Progressive LC means that when you lose the conso you start the LC immediately rather than waiting for Sunday and it also means that there's fewer LC rounds to play on Sunday, thereby basically eliminating the need to play very late and then start early Sunday.
